Supporting families facing a
life-limiting diagnosis
At ThrivingAfter, our mission is to provide lifestyle continuity and support services to families following a life-limiting diagnosis. We work toward improvement in the substantial gaps in care, access to resources, and treatment outcomes as we improve the definition of the illness trajectory and lasting impact on the family. We ensure success in activating programs which directly aim to improve and extend the lives of patients and bring healing and continuity to the family.

In the middle of a rewarding career in global information technology deployment, I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer. When provided with the options, including my BRCA1 mutation, I decided to have a double mastectomy. My work team was supportive as I went through several surgeries and reconstruction. My family was grateful we were DONE with breast cancer.
When a family member receives a terminal diagnosis, everyone in the family is affected differently. Some become overwhelmed with fear, some try to learn everything about the illness, and others simply try to avoid the topic. Each member of my family reacted individually and had completely different needs,
As I researched the availability of services for individuals with advanced stage cancer, I was dismayed to see that there were not many resources to help the family.
I quickly discovered that my ongoing treatment would take a toll on my body and mind. I would not be able to continue my highly stressful and detail oriented career.
My research showed that I should be eligible for Social Security Insurance (SSI) and Medicare. Unfortunately, health benefits through Medicare would not be available until at least 24 months following leaving full-time employment.
There are no existing remedies to provide healthcare coverage to fill the 24-month gap in health insurance for the individual leaving full-time employment to focus on treatment and quality of life.
This nonprofit was started to help ease the pain of the 24-month gap allowing an individual to make the choice to leave employment, focus on care, and share as much life with family as possible.
When faced with advanced stage cancer or other life-limiting illness, ThrivingAfter, a 501(c)(3) organization, can collect and manage the funds to offset the cost of continuation of COBRA or alternate healthcare coverage.
Two models have been developed to streamline funding and make your tax-deductible donation to support those navigating end of life decisions and healthcare coverage.
Your generous donations help us provide crucial support to families facing health insurance gaps. Together, we can ease the burden of those 24 months and ensure no one feels alone in their struggle. Join us in making a difference today!

The main goal of ThrivingAfter is to empower families affected by cancer and other serious illnesses, ensuring they have access to vital healthcare services during challenging times. We ensure success in activating programs which directly aim to improve and extend the lives of patients and bring healing and continuity to the family.
Metastatic breast cancer is the most advanced stage of breast cancer (Stage 4) that occurs when the disease spreads from the breast to other parts of the body and for which there is no cure.
COBRA is the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, a law that lets eligible employees and their families temporarily continue their group health coverage after losing it due to qualifying events like job loss. The plan is identical to the one you had before, but you are responsible for the full cost of premiums, plus an administrative fee.
COBRA typically lasts for 18 months, but can be extended up to 29 or 36 months depending on the qualifying event and circumstances.
